November 3 at 7 p.m.Projections and Performances: The Work of Ericka Beckman Ericka Beckman has made acclaimed works across Super-8mm, 16mm, and expanded cinema formats since the 1980s. Engaging live-action choreographed sequences, as well as handcrafted layered animation and fast paced soundtrack, Beckman transforms the cultural norms communicated through common-place material such as fairytales and games. This evening's screening and discussion with curator Piper Marshall will draw on Beckman’s long standing exploration of “the performance of the image” and the artist’s notion that physical action and our memory constructs cultural images and influences both our behavior and perception of reality. Beckman’s work has been collected and screened at numerous institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, Walker Art Center, and MoMA PS1. Instagram: @ebeckfilm | @martianpipes
