The Vow of Hiroshima
Join us for a screening and discussion featuring the award-winning documentary film The Vow from Hiroshima. If you appreciated the recent Academy Award winning film Oppenheimer, you will be intrigued by this real-life documentary from people who experienced the atomic bombing in 1945. The Vow From Hiroshima is an intimate portrait of Setsuko Thurlow, a survivor of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. Her moving story is told through the lens of her growing friendship with a second-generation survivor, Mitchie Takeuchi. Panelists will be writer and producer Mitchie Takeuchi and director and producer Susan Strickler. After the film had a successful year-long theatrical run in 19 cities in Japan, Mitchie received the 2021 Japan Film Renaissance Conference Peace Film Award. Susan Strickler has been a successful director of such works as The Young and the Restless and Another World. During her extensive career, she has won both the Daytime Emmy Award and the Director’s Guild of America Award.
