The Playwrights' Perspective
Join us as we present a panel featuring some of today’s most celebrated playwrights. They will discuss having their work produced on and off-Broadway and in the commercial and non-profit sectors, focusing on the different challenges and opportunities those venues and their associated players bring. Moderated by theater and music journalist Elysa Gardner, the panel will include Oscar, Tony Award, and Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley, whose play "Doubt" was recently revived in a production starring Liev Schreiber and Amy Ryan. Patrick will be joined by a fellow Pulitzer winner, playwright, lyricist and composer Michael R. Jackson, whose credits include "A Strandge Loop", and "Teeth". Patrick and Michael will be joined on the panel by other playwrights whose work has earned attention and acclaim in New York this season. Gardner is a theater critic for The New York Sun and a contributor to The New York Times and author of the book Magic to Do: Pippin’s Fantastic Fraught Journey to Broadway and Beyond. She is a member of the Drama Desk board and has served twice on the jury for the Pulitzer Prize for drama, most recently as Chair.
