NYC Premiere! Dancing without Steps: The Art of Improvisation with Margaret Beals
[Dance] Dancing without Steps, co-directed by Adriana Davis and Margaret Beals and introduced by Meridith Monk, is intended as a discussion of the power of improvisation to ignite and influence artists across varied mediums. The film emerged from a talk about the art form and grew into a documentary, the foundation of which is Beals’s pioneering improvised performances over a period of fifty years, and draws from artists in other mediums as well. She says, “Improvisation is like surfing. You must jump in without hesitation and keep swimming.” Beals and Davis will talk about the work and answer questions.
