The Great Nadar - The Man Behind the Camera

Thursday, September 7
6:30 PM  /  Illustrated lecture and book signing (in English)

Nadar, born Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, was a legendary figure of mid-nineteenth-century Paris: an irrepressible artist, a wild-eyed visionary, an outrageous self-promoter, and an enfant terrible. He is still considered one of the greatest portrait photographers of his generation. He photographed many of the iconic literary figures and artistic intelligentsia living in Paris during the Belle Epoque, creating compelling portraits of Manet, Sarah Bernhardt, Delacroix, Daumier, Victor Hugo - among others.
Adam Begley is an American freelance writer. He has worked as the literary editor of the New York Observer and has written biographies of the writers John Updike and Stendhal. He is currently working as a contributing writer to the Paris Review's "Art of Fiction" series.

FOR MEMBERS ONLY: For a prix-fixe dinner at the “French Table," call (212) 477-2389 or email [email protected].
