Nelson Hughes Presents That Slapstick Show! featuring Laurel & Hardy Thursday, April 25 7:00 PM Film and panel discussion Stan Laurel (1890-1965) and Oliver Hardy (1892-1957) were a comedy duo in the early Classic Hollywood era of American cinema. The bowler-hat-wearing pair catapulted to wide fame. Nelson Hughes, who is a film researcher, curator and collector, curates the evening. His series That Slapstick Show! is in its fifth year and this evening will be its second show in Manhattan. Hughes’ co-organizer over the years is Tommy Jose Stathes, a curator of rare, animated silent cartoons. A panel will follow, including Steve Massa of the New York Public Library of the Performing Arts and author of Slapstick Divas; Jack Roth, who leads the New York chapter of the Laurel and Hardy society, called Sons of the Desert; and comedian Bob Greenberg.
