Hollywood Victory: The Movies, Stars, and Stories of World War II
This program will now take place virtually via Zoom.
[Moving Image] When World War II was the greatest threat facing the nation, Hollywood responded. Join culture journalist Christian Blauvelt in telling the story of how the film industry enlisted in the Allied efforts. Production shifted focus to war films, and “home-front” stories designed to lift troop-morale. Movie stars risked their lives entertaining troops at battlefronts, and others joined the fight in uniform. Leading filmmakers took breaks from thriving careers to make films aiming to shore up alliances and boost recruitment. Blauvelt is the managing editor of leading industry website IndieWire. A two-time Webby winner, he regularly appears on TV, at film festivals, and pop culture conventions. He is the author of several other books including Star Wars Made Easy and Cinematic Cities: New York: The Big Apple on the Big Screen. Hollywood Victory will be available for purchase.
