The Women Who Revolutionized Fashion
[Fashion] Join Petra Slinkard, Director of Curatorial Affairs and Nancy B. Putnam Curator of Fashion and Textiles at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem as she presents The Women Who Revolutionized Fashion, an evening celebrating and recognizing women’s often-overlooked contributions to the fashion and design industry. From Mary Todd Lincoln’s modiste to Elsa Schiaparelli and Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, to experimental labels like Chromat, women designers have transcended genres and revolutionized ideas of identity. Slinkard joined PEM in 2018, following her role as Curator of Costume at the Chicago History Museum. Currently she oversees the museum’s Carl and Iris Barrel Apfel Gallery of Fashion and Design and was the co-curator of Made It: The Women who Revolutionized Fashion, organized in association with the Kunstmuseum Den Haag. Books will be available for purchase. Revolutionary fashion by women is highly encouraged!
