FashionSpeak Fridays: Tartan Talk

Friday, October 18
7:00 PM

Tartan, the beloved symbol of kin, clan and nation to the Scots, has evolved into the one of the world’s favorite fabrics. Join Jeffrey Banks, co-author of Tartan: Romancing the Plaid, and fashion designer Michael Kaye, the “Bonnie Prince of Tartan,” for an illuminating presentation tracing tartan’s humble beginnings to its current status as the ultimate emblem of great taste and high fashion.

A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Jeffrey Banks has earned a pair of Coty Awards, as well as the Cutty Sark Award for Outstanding U.S. Designer of Menswear and the Pratt Institute Award for Excellence.  As an author, Banks has also penned American Fashion Menswear, Preppy: Cultivating Ivy Style, Perry Ellis: An American Original, Patricia Underwood: The Way You Wear Your Hat and most recently, NORELL: Master of American Fashion. Michael Kaye is an award-winning designer with his own couture company. He has been featured in numerous fashion publications and his designs are in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute and the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

NEW: There will be an exclusive dance performance by the NY Scottish Ball!
