Loans from the Permanent Collection

In keeping with our mission to support scholarship in the field of American art, we are pleased to announce that Wayman Adams’s Portrait of Samuel T. Shaw (ca. 1925, Gift of the Artist’s Estate, ca. 1960s) will be featured in the exhibition Body & Soul: From Exploration to Expression, on display at the Osilas Gallery, Concordia College, Bronxville, New York, from 4 September-27 October 2007.

The show, which includes Old Master paintings as well as work by contemporary artists, explores the concept of the figure as a vessel for the soul.  A reception and gallery talk is scheduled for 11 September 2007, 7-9 p.m.  For further information, members can call the gallery at 914.337.9300, extension 2173.

We are proud to announce the publication, in December 2008, of A Legacy of Art: Paintings and Sculptures by Artist Life Members of the National Arts Club.  Written by Dr. Carol Lowrey, Curator of the Permanent Collection, this 200+ page catalogue focuses on the paintings and sculptures created by the Artist Life Members, a group of artists active in American art circles during the early-to-mid twentieth century, among them such prominent figures as Robert Henri, Anna Hyatt Huntington, Ernest Lawson and Paul Manship.  The book will features an introductory essay, a list of Artist Life Members with the dates of their election, comprehensive entries on seventy paintings and sculptures with full color illustrations, and an appendix listing all artwork by Artist Life Members of the club.  This is an essential reference book for club members eager to explore the stories behind the paintings and sculptures that adorn the clubhouse, and for anyone interested in American art.

Please consult this page later in the autumn for further details, including order information (which will also appear in the Merchandise section of the club’s website).
