Waking The Spirit: How Music Helps The Healing Process Thursday, June 7 7:00 PM Film and discussion Professional guitarist Andrew Schulman suffered cardiac arrest and wound up in Dr. Marvin McMillen’s ICU. Improvement was slow. His wife asked if she could play his favorite music, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, whereupon his blood pressure and metabolism stabilized, and he recovered. Upon leaving the hospital, Andrew asked Dr. McMillen if he could return to the ICU to play for other critically ill patients, which he has now been doing for eight years. He is the author of the Amazon best seller Waking the Spirit, a Musician’s Journey Healing Body, Mind, and Soul. He and Dr. McMillen are now co-directors of a summer course in the Berkshires: “Medicine for Musicians” to train other musicians to be part of an ICU team. After the film presentation of their PBS special, Mr. Shulman and Dr. McMillen will discuss their work, followed by a Q&A.
