Gunz & God, The Life of an NYPD Undercover
Wednesday, October 12
Please join us for a discussion with Rocco Parascandola and Stevie Stryker, co-authors of Gunz & God: The Life of an NYPD Undercover.
Parascandola, the Police Bureau Chief for the New York Daily News, and Stryker, a now-retired undercover, will discuss their career paths, how they met and how they collaborated on the book.
Parascandola has also worked at the New York Post and New York Newsday, and while he has covered other beats, including transit and Manhattan Federal Court, his specialty is crime and police.
Stryker, the son of a Pentecostal minister, rebelled against his strict upbringing, joined the Marines and then the NYPD, gaining respect and admiration along the way for his uncanny ability to buy guns and drugs from the worst of the worst.
Stevie Gunz was his nickname, but it was also his burden, as far too often his work consumed him, often to the detriment of his family life. A debilitating illness cut his career short, but he has found his true calling, following his father’s path as a minister.
Their perspectives – about media, crime, race, politics and how cops do their jobs in the face of unending criticism – are yours to question.
No RSVP required. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.
