After nine years with The New York Times, where he wrote not only about off-Broadway productions but also a variety of other cultural issues, Peter Marks joined The Washington Post in 2002 as its chief theater critic. In that role he has observed and commented on everything from events like Kennedy Center Honors galas to significant works in such vibrant settings as Arena Stage, the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Ford's Theatre and the intimate Folger Theatre (which features edgy Shakespearean adaptations by directors such as Aaron Posner and frequently wins more Helen Hayes Awards than its larger competitors). In addition, Mr. Marks provides extensive coverage of Broadway and London offerings, and many readers prefer his reviews and theatrical profiles to those in The New York Times and The New Yorker. He will talk about current trends in contemporary drama, not only in the U.S. but in the U.K. and elsewhere.
