Public Instruction (not FCC approved)
by Lindsay Benedict
Wednesday, March 27
Please join us for a research exercise in authority. Witness an unknown performance unfold in real-time, assisted by FM radio transmission, with a discussion to follow.
The structure of the performance will be a negotiated collaboration or a collective choreography. Participants from an open-call will listen through headphones to instructions given by the spectators on the night of the performance. The performers will then decide individually in what manner they would like to carry out these instructions.
The participants will, as much as possible, authentically present themselves and be genuinely engaged with the performance.
Lindsay Benedict cultivates “the immediate” for presentation. She presents us with fragments and gestures that examine and question social relations. Her work has been shown in the United States, Switzerland, France, Italy, Canada, Germany, and Croatia. Benedict received a BA from Williams College, an MFA from the University of California, Berkeley and was a studio fellow at the Whitney Independent Study Program.
