Illustrated lecture and discussion

Join us for a discussion on the esteemed fashion designer Norman Norell with award-winning fashion designer and author Jeffrey Banks.
Critics deemed Norman Norell’s work “the equal of Paris,” earning him the sobriquet “the American Balenciaga.”
Norell brought to the world a lean sophistication and American glamour in his daytime suits, jersey separates, swing coats, and his shimmering sequined “mermaid” dresses. His illustrious client list included Lauren Bacall, Babe Paley, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Lena Horne, Dinah Shore, Marilyn Monroe, and Lady Bird Johnson.
A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Jeffrey Banks has earned a pair of Coty Awards, as well as the Cutty Sark Award for Outstanding U.S. Designer of Menswear, and the Pratt Institute Award for Excellence.
As an author, Banks has penned Tartan: Romancing the Plaid, American Fashion Menswear, Preppy: Cultivating Ivy Style, Perry Ellis: An American Original, and most recently Patricia Underwood: The Way You Wear Your Hat.

Norman Norell inspired fashion is encouraged. Books will be available for purchase.
