FashionSpeak Fridays:
Charles James “Portrait of an Unreasonable Man”

Friday, November 9
7:00 PM

Join Michèle Gerber Klein for an evening on the life and times of the visionary fashion designer Charles James, "America's First Couturier." A winner of 2 Coty awards and the subject of numerous museum exhibitions, James is most famous for his sumptuous ball-gowns and highly structured aesthetic.
Klein is the author of the first biography on James, shedding light on the enigmatic designer and the women who inspired his work. Drawing on the glamour of Europe in the 1930s, and the dazzle of New York City from the ‘40s through the ‘70s, it travels with James from his birth to privilege in England and follows his career through his complex and turbulent relationships with exceptional women such as Elsa Schiaparelli and Eleanor Lambert, to his death in the Chelsea Hotel.
The founder of Joan Vass U.S.A and Vice President of the Liberman Foundation, Michèle Gerber Klein has written about art and fashion for many publications and has served on several boards. Charles James-inspired fashion is highly encouraged!
