Act 3, Directory of Portrayals Monday, October 29 7:00 PM Reading and rehearsal Sahra Motalebi is an artist, composer and vocalist born in Birmingham Alabama. Often formatted as performance-exhibition, her work includes scenographic installation, vocal composition and recordings, painting, sculpture, video and text. She has staged solo projects and performances at The Kitchen, MoMA PS1, New Museum of Contemporary Art, SculptureCenter, and Swiss Institute. Join us for a reading and public rehearsal of the most recent work from her open-form opera, Directory of Portrayals. This work draws its structure from a libretto, based on an ongoing, online exchange between the artist and her sister, who lives in Iran. Complicated by its digital formatting, the opera’s experiments in narrative and its iterative performances speak to the current conditions of self, intimacy and knowledge—beyond material borders and at the limits of subjective projection and interchange.
