The Inkblots by Damion Searls

Thursday, May 10
6:00 PM

Presentation with Q & A and book signing, followed by a reception

In 1917, Swiss Freudian psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach introduced his ten Inkblots to research the human mind. As a visual artist, he also took inspiration from Futurism and Dada. After Rorschach's 1922 death, his test gained popularity and became a symbol in advertising, filmmaking, and journalism with impact on pop culture from Andy Warhol to Jay-Z.
In The Inkblots, a first-ever biography of Rorschach, author Damion Searls evokes a singular visionary who synthesizes art and science.  Searls, a New Yorker with a Harvard and UC Berkeley background, is also recognized as a Western European language translator.  His writing for Harper’s and The Paris Review, as well as translations of Rilke, Proust, and five Nobel laureates, have earned him Guggenheim and NEA fellowships.

THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. A RESERVATION IS NOT REQUIRED.
