Through Your Eyes: The NAC Collects

March 26 - April 28

Opening Reception: March 26,  6:00-8:00 PM

When setting out objectives for establishing The National Arts Club in 1898, Charles de Kay made special note of the potential contributions connoisseurs and collectors could make in promoting the fine arts in America. The Club’s roll of Charter Members included Benjamin Altman and Henry Clay Frick. Although the core of the NAC’s Permanent Collection came to the Club as a result of the Artist Life Membership program, many works were gifts from the private collections of members.
To celebrate the joys of collecting and connoisseurship, the Fine Arts Committee is pleased to mount this fourth annual exhibition featuring works from the personal collections of our members. We hope this exhibition will give the NAC family the opportunity to share interests and treasures and to collectively confirm The National Arts Club’s commitment to art and art education.

The National Arts Club is proud to present the Fifth Annual Will Barnet Student Show. The show honors Will Barnet’s contributions to the NAC and his lifelong dedication to arts education.
This dynamic exhibition showcases the work of undergraduate students from nine prestigious New York area schools. Building on the success of the previous exhibitions, the Student Show prizes are highly recognized in the art world and the level of talent continues to be fresh and original.
We invite you to join us in welcoming these young artists to The National Arts Club and to celebrate the NAC’s ongoing commitment to educational outreach and emerging talent.

Aaron Miller: Works on Paper

March 26 - May 25

Opening Reception: April 2,  6:00-8:00 PM

Aaron Miller's artistic research is best described as a social inquiry into class-consciousness. Since the Industrial Revolution, the raw production of coal mining and the luxurious consumption of upper-class life have been inextricably intertwined; each world exists because of the other, despite the seeming distance between the two. Demonstrating this interdependency, he places the heads of coal miners on elegant neoclassical figures, and composes his drawings out of grimy coal dust and silvery, shimmering graphite. The resultant work is a world somewhere between historical reality and the flight of his imagination.
