Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story

Tuesday, November 21

How do you make a documentary film about a recluse who never told her secret story?
Hedy Lamarr was a bombshell movie star known for her astounding good looks (Cat Woman and Snow White were both based on her) but no one knew she was also an inventor by night, designing a communication system for the Allies that would evolve into the way we securely communicate on Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth today. She died without telling the world how she did it, and many experts assumed she was a spy for the Allies and stole the idea from the Nazis.
Filmmakers Alexandra Dean and Adam Haggiag finally discovered her full story during their two year investigation into Lamarr, which culminated in their film, Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story. Bombshell premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, won the Shelly Prize for Filmmaking, Best of Fest at Nantucket and two Audience Awards at SFJFF and Middlebury before finishing its festival run this month. Next month the film hits theaters in New York and LA.
Join us for an exclusive talk as the filmmakers shed light on who the real Lamarr was, and how they discovered the truth.
