Robots: make me sculpture

Tuesday, October 3
8:00 PM

Interactive lecture

Cy Keener, professor of Sculpture / Digital Fabrication and Media at the University of Maryland, will share stories from the front lines of art and technology where software, computer controlled machines and art collide.
Keener uses digital means to make data reporting sculptures that travel the oceans and inhabit windy mountain ridges. He spent a year at the bleeding edge of digital manufacturing as an artist in residence at the Autodesk software company in San Francisco. He brings an enthusiastic and skeptical perspective to the current era of perceiving all things digital as good. Through teaching and practice, he explores the boundaries and limitations of making art with digital tools.
Keener holds an MFA from Stanford University, and an M.Arch from the University of California Berkeley. He has been commissioned for installations at Stanford, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts at the University of Texas.
