Utopia at Brighton Beach

Sunday, June 11
2:30 PM

“In a world without utopias, Brighton Beach, to me, is the closest we can get to one ideal place in our intolerant society.” – Marcia Grostein
The Exhibitions Committee invites you to join visual artist Marcia Grostein in a discussion of her ongoing photographic project at Brighton Beach, a place of incredible diversity. People of all colors, creeds, genders and anatomies cohabit in perfect harmony in Grostein’s riveting photographs. Grostein’s engaging and passionate style convey her deep respect for the individuals depicted in her images, who have often willingly shared their personal anecdotes with her.
Born in Sao Paulo and based in New York, Marcia Grostein’s illustrious career spans several decades. She works in a variety of mediums ranging from painting, sculpture, and photography, to video and public art. Her work has been featured in international solo and group exhibitions, and can be found in numerous international private and public collections, including New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA.
