Pre-Crime with Jakob S. Boeskov

Thursday, March 9
8:00 PM

Artist Jakob S. Boeskov will give a rare talk about his ‘Pre-Crime Triptych.’ This trilogy of art pieces manifested as “fictional technologies,” was presented as real products in real environments, among weapons dealers, politicians, surveillance experts, and military personnel. The Pre-Crime Triptych uses clandestine performances to create critical works about new military technology.
‘ID Sniper’ (2002) was a high-tech GPS sniper rifle presented at China’s first international arms fair. The weapon was conceived as a ‘post 9/11 weapon’ tailored for the Chinese market. ‘Face Jagger’ (2015) was presented at America’s largest surveillance fair. This fictional weapon proposed a new kind of cyber weapon - a “3D printbased anti-terrorist tool” designed for a ‘post-cinematic’ world. Boeskov will tell the story of the triptych and present the uncompleted final installment.
Jakob S. Boeskov is an artist based in New York. He has had group shows throughout Europe, worked with Creative Time in New York, and co-founded The Scandinavian Institute, an artist-run space in Chinatown, NYC. Boeskov’s film ‘Empire North’ won the Danish:Dox Award at Cph:Dox in 2011.
Stay for our social hour and book signing of the books ID Sniper and Face Jagger (A-Mock Book) after the presentation.
