The Harlem Shakespeare Festival’s
“The Sable Series: The History of Black Shakespearean Actors”

Come, see, hear and be moved by this award winning theatre company of contemporary classical actors and singers as they pay tribute to three iconic Black Shakespearean Actors - Paul Robeson, Ira Aldridge, and Henrietta Vinton Davis - who filled the houses of international theaters and left an indelible mark on history as well as the American Theatre.
   Take Wing and Soar Productions and New Heritage Theatre Group have teamed up to produce the Harlem Shakespeare Festival™  which spans Harlem with ongoing programming. With the plays of William Shakespeare as its foundation, they kick off this season’s festival with The Sable Series in a captivating performance that covers the years between 1807 and 1976 by recreating the lives and work of three world famous actors/singers. This special performance piece is filled with poetry and song, video projections, and the moving spiritual music of Mahalia Jackson and Paul Robeson, and features the work of Paul Laurence Dunbar with monologues and scenes from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Anthony and Cleopatra, Othello and Richard III.
   This is the tale of three notable classical actors who stood up for their beliefs, and had a commitment to make our world a better place for themselves and for other actors who would follow in their footsteps.
