THROUGH YOUR EYES: The NAC Collects

February 6 - 22

Opening Reception:
February 9, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

When setting objectives for establishing The National Arts Club in 1898, Charles de Kay made special note of the potential contributions connoisseurs and collectors could make in promoting the fine arts. Although the core of the NAC’s Permanent Collection came to the Club as a result of the Artist Life Membership Program, many works were generous gifts from the private collections of members.
To celebrate the joys of collecting and connoisseurship, the Fine Arts Committee is excited to mount this third annual exhibition featuring works from the personal collections of our members. From the classical to the cutting edge, the Grand Gallery will be filled with works of art that will offer the NAC family the opportunity to share interests and treasures.

Libbet Loughnan

February 6 - March 4

Libbet Loughnan’s paintings explore the fragility and connectedness of humanity. Her work reflects a childhood rich in family warmth under the Australian sun, stories encountered across countries in adult life - particularly in NYC - and a desire for more reflection on the place of humans within nature.
Usually working with dark and bright acrylic on wood, Loughnan sometimes produces watercolors on paper and sculptures.
Recent awards include the President’s Prize, The National Arts Club, New York (March 2016) and First Prize in Art Lab Award 2015 and fully hosted Artist Residency, awarded by the Academia Luciana, Civitella, Italy (2015). Loughnan has exhibited in the USA, Australia, Germany, Italy, Mexico and the Philippines, including recent solo shows in the Philippines and Australia.

OUTSIDE THE LINES: The Fourth Annual NAC Drawing Invitational

Through March 4

Drawings have for centuries offered viewers the most immediate and intimate glimpse of an artist’s process and vision. More than paintings, drawings make us constantly aware of the physical act of their making. Since the early 20th century artists have made the argument that drawings can possess inherent qualities that make them a major art form in their own right. Today, through the use of unconventional media, artists have energized the force and impact of line.
The Annual NAC Drawing Invitational brings together an eclectic group of artists who continue to challenge the concept of drawing to create powerful expressions through line. Included are works by Elsa Mora, Terry Winters, Kendall Shaw and Jimmy Wright.
