Pan's Labyrinth

Monday, January 30
7:30 PM

The Film Committee’s Dream Factory Festival continues with Pan’s Labyrinth. Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro returns to the phantasmagorical cinema that defined such early fare as Cronos and The Devil's Backbone with this haunting fantasy-drama set in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War and detailing the strange journeys of an imaginative young girl who may be the mythical princess of an underground kingdom.
Released in 2006, Pan's Labyrinth opened to widespread critical acclaim. The film won numerous international awards, including three Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awards including Best Film Not in the English Language, the Ariel Award for Best Picture, the Saturn Awards for Best International Film and Best Performance by a Younger Actor for Ivana Baquero.
Our discussant is Kelly Bulkeley, Ph.D., who has been the President of the Association for the Study of Dreams and now teaches at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. His research focuses on the interplay of psychology, spirituality and culture in dreaming.
