FashionSpeak Fridays: Marie Antoinette's Head

Friday, February 3
7:00 PM

Marie Antoinette has remained atop the popular cultural landscape for centuries, mostly for the daring style and fashion she brought to eighteenth-century France. For the better part of the Queen’s reign, one man was entrusted with making her elaborate hairstyles the talk of France.
Join Will Bashor, author of Marie Antoinette’s Head: The Royal Hairdresser, the Queen, and the Revolution (Lyons Press) for the story of Léonard Autié, Marie Antoinette’s hairdresser and confidant, along with a live demonstration of eighteenth century  hairdressing techniques by stylists Karmela Lozina and Akira Yamane.
In his book, Bashor charts Léonard’s rise, from his humble origins as a provincial barber to the inventor of the pouf and his position as premier hairdresser to the Queen in a world filled with seduction, espionage and treason!
Will Bashor received his doctorate from the American Graduate School in Paris and teaches at Franklin University. Karmela Lozina is a Master Craftsman at Sahag Workshop with twenty years of experience styling at New York Fashion Week. Akira Yamane is a second generation stylist with credits including the New York and Paris Haute Couture Fashion Shows.

Marie Antoinette Style is highly encouraged! Books will be available for purchase.
